Devil's Punchbowl

Jeffrey Bowman put it perfectly by saying "Spending time in nature is a humbling and inspiring experience. From the adventurer who sets out to conquer the highest peaks and overcome the greatest of physical challenges to a group of friends sitting around the glowing warmth of a campfire on a cold fall night, there are endless opportunities to enjoy our vast and open landscapes." It is our belief here at Scrimshaw that every man, woman, and child has at some point in their life this internal yearning to explore. This exploration takes hold of individuals and gets them out of the house, off their phones, into physical reality, showing them what it means to view the unknown.  Yes, I totally understand the irony as most of you read this via your phone or laptop, but what we hope to do by showing you our passion in wanderlust is to ignite a deep feeling within you that makes you want to see what is out there.

As I sat rooted to my desk chair this week, the traveller within made it very clear it was time for a little adventure.  A couple phone calls were made and plans were set to take to the California desert and visit the small oasis known as the Devil’s Punchbowl.  Saturday morning arrived.  After putting down a quick breakfast burrito, the lot of us jumped into a car and raced out to the desert to try and get a quick start before the midday sun.  Stepping out and on to the trail, it was evident that it would be gorgeous, but also incredibly hot with the temperature a balmy 100 degrees. The hike was gorgeous and looked only slightly better than my desktop background ;) After a couple hours of hiking in the sun and dirt we arrived at this random pack of trees down in the valley that opened up into a serene pool and waterfall. I thought to myself, wow, this looks like something out of a movie, but then you realize the movies were made based on mini adventures like this. The day, the company, the conversation, the views, the Devil’s Punchbowl, and the exploration were amazing.  This is how Scrimshaw saw the Devil’s Punchbowl:
